Packing small pieces of plastic into plastic bottles really can make a difference to the environment! 25th Allerton Beaver Scouts in South Liverpool have been exploring the recycling theme and encouraged by the amount of different badges they could go for embarked on the ecobricks project along with lots more Merseyside Scout Groups of all ages.
Ecobricks become a valuable commodity, are logged online and validated. Building constructions include outdoor garden raised beds and walls to indoor stools and tables. This initiative began in the Philippines and has swept across the UK over the last two years. There are ecobrick clubs in schools, training courses and collection points as well as lots of community sharing.
Making an ecobrick engages families in the plastic-less experience which means less plastic comes into the home as we avoid it and seek alternatives. www.ecobricks.org.
